Mr. Smith is a pioneer, visionary and mentor in the area of antitrust law. A large portion of Mr. Smith’s over 50-year career is tied to ground-breaking antitrust cases against major pharmaceutical manufacturers. In fact, Mr. Smith was a member on the trial team that litigated the very first Hatch Waxman reverse payment case.

In addition, he has experience with commercial and business torts. He was admitted to the Tennessee State Bar in 1968 and then to the Louisiana State Bar in 1971. Mr. Smith is also admitted to the U.S. Court of Military Appeals and U.S. Tax Court. In 1974, he was admitted to appear before the U.S. Supreme Court.
Mr. Smith received his B.A. from Louisiana State University in 1964, and awarded his J.D. in 1967 from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville. From 1968 until 1971, he was a member of the U.S. Marine Corp where he held the rank of captain and was a member of the JAGC. He was a tax attorney in the Office of the Chief Counsel for the Internal Revenue Service from 1971-1976. He is a member of the Louisiana State, Tennessee State and American Bar Associations.
